Does Mommy Love it?

This group writing project from Does Mommy Love It? wants us to talk about an indispensable item for our family. Now, we do a LOT of international traveling as a family, and we always have one kid that needs to have a car seat. I know most parents take their kids in a stroller around the airport, and this can be very useful, but for us, I need a free hand! So what do I do? I use Go-Go Kidz TravelMate. It attaches to most car seats (we have the Britax Roundabout, which we need to take anyway), and we can gate-check it like a stroller. The best part is that it's just like having a suitcase -- you can drag it around with one hand while holding your other child's hand. It's so helpful, especially if you have a little one that can't walk yet! And the best part -- my kids love it.



Update: I forgot to mention a tiny drawback; attached to the car seat, it won't fit through the security checkpoint's x-ray machine. However, if you let them know beforehand, they can screen it manually (they're usually pretty accommodating when they see you w/ children). It's a lot easier than taking it apart and putting back together while trying to manage two kids and hassling with things like shoes and belts.

Wow, what a city! One of the world's most holiest places (sacred to Jews, Christians and Muslims), Jerusalem is a city that will impact you. Here are some pics of a few of the places we visited. It really can't convey the feeling you have being there -- you just have to go and see for yourself. So, ahlan wasahlan!

Western Wall: Formally known as the "Wailing Wall," the whole area around it is one of the most hotly-contested pieces of real estate in the world.

Ben Yahuda District: It's a sleepy place in the morning, but it gets pretty busy at night! And that's in the dead of winter; I can only imagine what it's like in the spring and summer!

Nothing to Do

Well, the weather here has been pretty lousy the last couple of days, and there's still no sign of the USB cable for my camera. Which is pretty sad because we do have some nice pictures from Jerusalem and Haifa. We've also had bad luck with the hot water heater, so no hot showers for the past few days. In the summer that's not too bad because the sun warms the water and it's fairly comfortable, but in the winter... brrrrr. How do you cope? Well, there are two choices: very cold shower (yikes!) or warm up a bunch of water on the stove and fill up the bathtub. I've been choosing the latter.

So, this week has also been a list of firsts for my daughter. She JUST started sitting up (without support) yesterday, so that was a fun little milestone! And she's been ravenous the past couple of days, so today I finally started feeding her baby food. Not a lot, just a tablespoon of rice cereal with some milk, but she seemed to enjoy it. I don't recall my son being as excited about his first meal as she was, but my memory might not serve me correctly. Anyway, I'm glad that was easy.

She also looks like she's been teething, so we'll see if she comes up with a tooth in the next couple of weeks. Let's hope the rain lets up here soon, because my son can't go out to play and it's driving me crazy!!!

A New Year (and a New Template)

So, after having this blog for over a year, I figured it was time to change it up a little. I mean, I have all these gorgeous pictures of places I've visited, and I'm using a header created by Blogger? So here is a pic from our trip to Spain last summer. There was another, more winter-y picture I liked, but I thought we would all enjoy a more Mediterranean scene.

And I will post some pictures of Jerusalem soon -- as soon as I can find my pinche camera cord to download them onto the computer.

Sea of Galilee

Hey friends! Today I thought I would post a few pictures of our trip to Tiberius and the Sea of Galilee. It's a beautiful resort town, so hopefully we can go there again when the weather warms up! Keep in mind that, because my husband took most of the pictures, it's more... scenically-oriented (as opposed to people-oriented).

Church at Tabgha: Officially called "Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes," this is the site where people believe Jesus did the miracle of the feeding of the five thousand. A beautiful mosaic is depicted at the church's altar. It is now run by the Order of the Benedictines.

Our drive home was so pretty! Sorry about the powerlines, but I haven't had the chance to use Photoshop and eradicate the eyesore! So for now, just imagine that they aren't there.
